Huge 25W LED Burning Stuff!

Here I use an insanely bright red LED to burn things without the aid of any focusing optics. This beast takes 8 amps to run at full power, producing several watts of output light. Remember, this is not a laser! This is just an unfocused, but extremely powerful LED. This LED came from one of the Casio projectors that we get the 1W+ blue laser diodes from. That projector is like a goodie bag to light freaks like me.

Chrissie Iles, Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, discusses Paul McCarthy: Central Symmetrical Rotation Movement. This exhibition brings together a group of new and rarely seen works by Paul McCarthy (b. 1945), one of the most important American artists of his generation. The installations, films, photographs, and drawings on view focus on a central element of McCarthy’s practice: the way the body is destabilized through dislocations of architectural space. The disorientation that threads though all of the works shown here is at once formal, corporeal, and psychological. The screens, projectors, and rotating cameras of Spinning Room place the viewer at the center of hypnotic environment whereas the moving walls and doors of Bang Bang Room collapse our notion of stable architectural space. In Madhouse the walls and chair spinning at varying speeds conjure a similar state of physical and mental disorientation.

The Lord of the Rings In Concert: The Fellowship of the Ring will be performed on October 13, 2011 for one performance only at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. Featuring Howard Shore’s complete Academy Award and Grammy –winning score performed live on-stage by more than 200 musicians. Celebrated Maestro Ludwig Wicki, the preeminent conductor of Howard Shore’s Ring music, will conduct all performances. Joining Maestro Wicki is soprano Kaitlyn Lusk, who has toured the world as a soloist in The Lord of the Rings Symphony. Peter Jackson’s complete award-winning epic will be projected digitally on an immense 60-foot screen using an uncompressed high definition source with two 20k lumen projectors while the combined forces of the Munich Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Chorale, and Phoenix Boys Choir bring the music of Middle-earth to life.
